You don't need a reason to resurrect anything in Hollywood, at least if it was a film and then sequel that raked in all kinds of cash. So why not apply that principle and get MIB 3 off the ground? Eh, I don't care much, LVOED the first one. But was very disappointed by everything in the sequel besides Lara Flynn Boyle trampsing around and pulling off and suedo interesting villainess.
Reports now have it via Showbiz 411 that Smith and Jones are locked down with Barry Sonnenfeld to get into the third installment of the MIB franchise. In 3D of course. FEIGN SURPRISE! (Thank you Liz Lemon). This news is rather interesting, considering that Jones was reportedly passing on this. But maybe he considering the financial repercussions of staring in another one of these gaudy monstrosities.
Josh Brolin, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jemain Clement have all been attached to a point in #3 as the older news would have it, but who knows who--or what is more appropriate maybe--they'd be playing, if their even still interested. But that'd get me a little more excited. I loved, loved, loved the first one. Saw it in theaters with my dad, and went out and bought a whole bunch of shit and dressed up, read books about it, watched the VHS (--a 90's kid dead giveaway) a million times and made a bazillion neuralizers out of tin foil. So if he brings it back to the sorta, less is more, not so in your face style, of the first one, I'm game.
I'll say this, I bet Sonnenfeld is thanking the Movie Gods for this opportunity to get back into the director's chair. Mostly producing as of late, let's see if he can shake off the cobwebs and get back in the sadle with something worthy of a second life in sequel-town.
I'll keep you tree readers posted on new news of this gestating project.
Munki Out.
