'The Tempest' Trailer Drops

Julie Taymor (director) has to her name:

• 5 Tony Award nominations and 2 wins, Best Costume and Best Director For The Lion King Broadway
• 7 Drama Desk Award nominations with 3 wins, Oustanding Puppet, Costumes, Direction, The Lion King Broadway 
• An Emmy win
• An Oscar nomination for best original song

She is a certified BA in my eyes. If only for being the first woman to win a Tony for directing a musical. She's had time in theater and comes from that, using those honed skills and bringing a uniqueness to film. The Tempest included and directed Anthony Hopkins in the film adapt. Titus, another William Shakespeare play. She's slated to bring Spider-Man to Broadway as a musical. She directed Salma Hayek to her first Oscar nom in Frida. Across The Universe, a play off the Beatles as a musical film she directed in '07, was amazing and it looks as if she has utilized some of those techniques from that, and brought something newer, harsher, more rigid to this one. And very I'm fuckin' stoked.

Rango Trailer Drops

I've long known and been proud to watch Johnny Depp personify a chameleon in every film he does. Now Johnny Depp actually is a chameleon, son. Well, voicing one. Perhaps the most fitting voice-over in the history of animation? His name is Rango and he looks like he's got some trouble coming his way. Along with myself to a theater the night this hits at 12:01.



Rango hits theaters March 4th, 2011. It stars Johnny Depp, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone and Timothy Olyphant. It's directed by the awesome Gore Verbinski.

A Review: Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

Roger Ebert, or, The Rog as I like to call him, tell us:

"...Serves as an excellent illustration of my conviction that video games will never become an art form -- never, at least, until they morph into something else or more."

He was talking about Hitman, which he went on to approve. 3 out 4. But this movie, is no Hitman. It's something much, much, worse: A video game shot on film... As bad or good as it sounds. That's what we get for 116 minutes.
