Looks like the cast of Hanna has finally been rounded out. Joe Wright, (Atonement Pride & Prejudice) will be directing the new feature with all-stars: Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, and Cate Blanchett. Sounds sick already. But since the film got the set up at Focus Features back in '07, even with all it's attention, it's been getting the pass-around from various helmers in town. First word was Danny Boyle (Slumdg Millionaire) was testing the temperature, then Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) was giving it a prospective look. But it looks like things are settled and underway.
The film revolves around a 14-year old Eastern European girl (Saoirse) who has been raised by her father (Bana) to be a cold-blooded killing machine. She connects with a French family, forms a friendship with their daughter and begins going through the norms of adolescence. But when she is dragged back into her fathers world, she discovers that she was bred as a killing machine in a CIA prison camp, resulting in her having to fight for her life.
This is gonna be dope seeing such a gifted actress in such an interesting (and rare for the age) role. The 14 year old got a Best Supporting Actress nod from AMPAS back in '08 for playing the ever-jealous little wench in Atonement. Pretty serious start in this town, and she's been keeping up that good rep. She can be seen recently doing some heavy lifting along with Tucci in The Lovely Bones. See my review of Lovely Bones here. So it's nice to see that we won't be getting severely disappointed with drivel or some ridiculous summer blockbuster mindless shit. She's worked with her director before, good relationships and past experiences tend to lead to better films. You understand each other more, feed off each other, etc. Bana and Blanchett are both exceptional performers, with Blanchett being one of the best of the new ages. My favorite part about her is the way she can so easily invoke the golden age of film so well. She's truly gifted. And hot as fuck. LoL.
Anyway, here here to the cast and crew and of course Focus for pushing the material to get made with truly ingenious talent. I'm really stoked and love, love, love, a good assassin/spy/thriller/clues/detective/suspense film. Hell, my pants are even getting tighter right now (not really).
Munki out.
