A Preview: Money Never Sleeps, And Neither Do Sequels

When I first heard that Oliver Stone was producing/directing another Wall Street film, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, it first occurred to me: why the fuck, bro?

Actually, let me back up a bit. Back in June, 2009 I read that Javier Bardem was attached to the project and was in final talks to play the villain. Then in July, 2009  it was reported that Bardem had turned down the project in favor of shooting a film adaptation of the best-selling book, Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts. It was later stated that Bardem had turned down the role because if he'd chosen to do both film projects it would have had caused filming and scheduling conflicts and that the actor had had "five or six other offers." I was a little dampened on the previous enthusiasm I had for the project.

'The Fighter' Trailer Drops

Finally, after changing rounds (pun?) through actors, writers and directors, this thing got made. And now we have trailer to witness Christian Bale set to get his first nom at the Oscars for Best supporting. Or I'll quit (never attempt to be apart of) show-business. He's long over due.

Anyway, hit the jump button to read more of my babbling crap and then watch the trailer.

Halo Reach "Reaches" (Pun Intended) 200 Milly First day of Sales/Microsoft Still In the Business Of Making The Movie

The Halo Franchise is one that certainly keeps the heads on the pillows of Microsoft big-wigs at night. Sleeping tenderly. First day of sales--200 milly son. Which, if you think about, isn't that impressive considering that the standard version of the game is $60 and the deluxe version is a buck fifty ($150). This report comes via the pimps over at /Film.

They also have a nice little break down of how the ticket sales to video figures out-weigh by ten fold. Read it, it's cool. In total revenue for the out-of-this-world gaming series (yes, another pun), the games have sold over 34 million copies worldwide. To date all Halo merchandise has grossed more than $1.7 billion.

Woooooo boooooyyyyeeeee! Crapped maself. (Diapers)

'The Tourist' Trailer Drops!!!

And so did poop into ma drawers, but it's okay because why. . . ? Diapers!!! (If you read this blog you'll get it)

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie have come together to make a shit ton of cash.

I mean, charge the audience's sex-drive through the roof.

I mean, create a huge splash at the box office and cash in on their huge sex-appeal ontop of the fact that they never have stared together in a blockbuster before.

I mean, to rip off a great French film in a true American cinema fashion.

I mean, to create like true artists? Yeah, that one.

First Clip Released For 'Passion Play'

A Passion Play is a play about the death and final hours of Christ, I've seen my sister do one for our church when we were kids. She was the Virgin Mary.

It just so happens this film, is about Megan Fox as a sort of fallen angel/circus freak-show who is in some trouble with a local mobster played by . . . Bill Murray? All the while getting mixed up with Mickey Rourke as down-and-out trumpet player. (Whiz Khalifa voice) Oookkaaaaayyyy!

Hit the jump button for the clip and more about this cool concept of a film.

Harvey Keitel To Manage 'The Office'?

Via Cinematical is the newest news for Dunder Mifflin/Saber is of Harvey Keitel stepping in to manager the branch of Scraton? Harvey? For serious? Huh. . . I like that, I can see the angle they want with him already. If you didn't know the moist unfortunate news already, Michael Scott is resigning from The Office.

And now, from the mouth of executive producer Paul Lieberstein, Harvey Keitel is on the list to be taken very seriously as a contedner to step in once Carell exists the show. This is no rumor, this is the real deal. He went on tell EW Online: "He's probably the only guy who can do it, and he's doing TV now." Sounds good to me. He went to explain the backstory should Keitel take the offer: "He's an old salesman who thought he could retire and the stock market went down, and he has to come out of retirement to work for a few years."

I like it, the old wooden war horse boss in the office, sorta like Idris Elba was kinda doing on season five but larger and better and funnier of course.

What do you tree-readin' suckas think? I'll be keeping you posted on this developing story.

Munki out. And watch this shit.

'Skyline' Trailer Drops

What is this and where did it come from? A lot of people are playing catch up right now because this wasn't exactly on the map. The directors, The Brothers Strause, Greg and Colin,  are responsible for the mega-disaster flick, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. The good news it, these guys learned from their mistakes and got their act together.

All the while working on shit like this, for the special effects department: 300, X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and The Day After Tomorrow, for which Greg won a British Academy Award (BAFTA). They even worked on Avatar, if you've heard of that one.

But wait! There's more!

Batman & Superman Know How Their Gay

We've all seen the infamous completely improvised scene from 40 Year Old Virgin, with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd going totally from their heads with the stuff. Out of all the tributes on Youtube to this scene, I like this one the best. The angle of them sitting side by side isn't actually in that apt. They had to cut out the wall with the TV on it and pick up the shots showing them actually playing that game later, which is also inserted video game footage.

Anyway, without further adieu...

I know, I'm damned awesome for finding this. Hold your applause ladies and gentleman, just doing ma jobbie.

'Jack Goes Boating' Trailer Drops

Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut is the acclaimed Off Broadway play, Jack Goes Boating by Bob Glaudini, who adapted it himself. Hoffman, John Ortiz and Daphne Rubin-Vega all reprise their roles from the play. Amy Ryan steps in to replace Beth Cole as Hoffman's love interest. Good, I love her anyway.

The plot synopsis is as follows:
An unconventional romantic comedy set in the midst of working-class New York City life. In the dead of winter, we meet Jack (Hoffman), a limo driver who has vague dreams of landing a job with the MTA, a mild obsession with a reggae song, and has begun a half-hearted attempt at growing dreadlocks. He spends most of his time hanging out with his best friend and fellow driver, Clyde (Ortiz) and Clyde’s wife Lucy (Rubin-Vega). The couple set Jack up with Connie (Ryan), a co-worker of Lucy’s at Dr. Bob’s Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Being with Connie inspires Jack to learn to cook, pursue a new career, and take swimming lessons from Clyde so he can give Connie the romantic boat ride she wants. But as Jack and Connie cautiously circle commitment, Clyde and Lucy’s marriage begins to disintegrate. From there, we watch as each couple must come face to face with the inevitable path of their relationship.
The trailer makes it look quirky, and then saddening and love-dovey, and then dramatic. it's cool. this debuted at Sundance back in January to positive reviews and praise from critics. Not that I give a shit, Hoffman is one of my main men I follow. Now he's directing? I'm gonna see this come September 17th. Amy Ryan proved to me in season 5 of The Office that she has highly reformed comedy chops. This film's trailer is another is another great example of what she can do when given the chance.

Munki, pleasantly (squared), out.

Catwoman Robberies in NYC? Hit The Batsignal Gordon!

When you walk into a high-end shoe store in Manhattan, spend a half an hour poking around, all WHILE WEARING A CAT MASK--you deserve the money if someone doesn't put together how sketchy that is.

This is the (most awesome and appreciated) sketch by a police artist of the woman. She eventually approached the counter after a thirty minutes of practically loitering and presented a note claiming she had a gun, and asked for the money. She grabbed $86 bucks in cash, stuffed it in her purse, and calmly exited the store.

Dude...

The next day, she pulled another daring heist at a beauty shop. She got $500 bones all to herself.

The police have zero leads.

She's allegedly been linked to 2 other robberies in Queens, and a 9 West shoe store from last year.

Honestly, this is the kinda stuff that get's geeks involved with their cosplay costumes, and before you know it, you have two ordinary citizens running around, causing mischief, making people laugh, and being intention badasses, by accident. Sorta. Ya know? Lol. I'd love to see some real life Kick Ass.

Good looks to CBS News on this.

'Let Me In' Trailer Drops

After scowering the internet for which Radiohead song this is, I gave up because there's too many of their tracks to narrow it down to. But in that scowering, I found that many people are very offended by this remake, really. Some didn't even like the original. The '08 Swedish film is a wonderful film about the alienation of two children on the brink of their teenage years and the bond that can be formed between two kindred spirits who find themselves lost. It's a love story for adults about kids. Go watch it.

In all that terrificness found in that film, some of it struck director Matt Reeves of Cloverfield fame, and he decided to remake it. With the best intentions of course, but that's not good enough for some. He's doing this because it struck him in his heart, and he got inspired--that's what being an artist is all about. This isn't going to make a whole lot of money, nothing Oscar-baity really does. He's making this to show others of the beauty that can be found in the book's material. Only film geeks really know about the Swedish version. This American remake will be make a small splash at the B.O. and mos def get people in the film community talking, hopefully people outside of it too. Which is the whole intention of the remake. To the wonder in the book translated onto the screen. Trust. It will undoubtedly be compared to the original but whether or not it holds up or surpasses it is yet to be seen. It looks good enough to me, maybe a little too faithful, but good enough just the same. Really good. I'm excited. Plus, I have an actor's crush on Moretz, she's gonna go places.

Let Me In It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a new child in a New Mexico town in the early 1980s.

Anyway, without further adieu...

Let Me In sinks it's teeth in October 1st.

'Bioshock' Film Developments

I remember when the trailer for the 2nd game, simply called Bioshock 2, debuted online. I forget which damn website it was I saw it on. But I loved the whole thing.

I don't really play video games anymore, at least new ones. Because, they have passed me up in technicality to play. I.E. they're too hard and complex now. Lol, I still whip out Sonic and Mario Kart. Every time I try to hang with my gamer buddies on shit like this, I get merked out real quick. It ain't no fun, son. But I'd buy a PS3 just for this one (and Batman: Arkham Asylum). I ended up looking the game up after the sick trailer.  I liked what I found. The first game is as follows via Wikipedia:
"Set in an alternate history 1960, the game places the player in the role of a plane crash survivor named Jack, who must explore the underwater city of Rapture, and survive attacks by the mutated beings and mechanical drones that populate it."
Hit the jump button for more on this game adaptation.

'Red' Trailer Drops

Actually it was a few days ago but I was too busy doing something else to post it. Sue me. Actually don't do that. I have less then no money. Just check my bank account balance. Great! Now you know what I'm worth! Why don't I just tell you how it's been since you had-- Nevermind. I digressed a little didn't I?

I heard about this one a few months back, and got a little excited, primarily because if a cast like this is assembled, then it can't be all that bad. And most times, that's the way to think and only way to save a bad film. Weak direction and/or a poor screenplay doesn't mean shit (most times) if the cast can keep it together 'cuz their gifted enough.

The plot is as follows viz the pres release from Summit:
" Red is the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for, Sarah (Parker), endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Freeman, Malkovich and Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive."

Well, I guess I coulda just embedded the trailer instead huh? You get both fuck-o. Enjoy.

Red is comin' atcha October 15th. Flightplan and The Time Traveler's Wife dude, Robert Schwentke, is helming.Summit seems to be really shaping up. Good for them. They made it.

Rango Trailer Drops

I've long known and been proud to watch Johnny Depp personify a chameleon in every film he does. Now Johnny Depp actually is a chameleon, son. Well, voicing one. Perhaps the most fitting voice-over in the history of animation? His name is Rango and he looks like he's got some trouble coming his way. Along with myself to a theater the night this hits at 12:01.

Rango hits theaters March 4th, 2011. It stars Johnny Depp, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone and Timothy Olyphant. It's directed by the awesome Gore Verbinski.

Be keeping you posted.

The Best Cameo On Entourage

And also proof of why Val Kilmer is the best kept secret in Hollywood. Please try to argue that. He disappears into everything he does. He never tries to hard, or pushes too much. It's always very appropriate. And then there are things in his stuff, you never woulda thought of, and when you catch 'em, it's terrific and makes you feel better about your day.

Entourage is of course, one of my favorite shows ever. The last season was straight up weak (no chaser). So let's see what they can do with this one coming atcha June 27, 2010. Oh! That's today.

Anyway, without further adieu...

You wouldn't have even figured it out it was him wouldja? He's a damn chameleon akin to Gary Oldman, Streep, or DD Lewis.

Munki pleasantly out.

Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere' Trailer Dropped

Been waitin' for this one for a long time now. Heard about it a while back, nice to see Dorf in something he deserves. He is pretty good after all; paired with Sofoa? Ooooooo booooy...

The plot of the film is as follows:
Stephen Dorff plays Johnny Marco, a Hollywood bad-boy stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont when he receives an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter, played by Elle Fanning. Their meeting challenges his lifestyle and forces him to make necessary changes.
Let's watch the magic happen.

Looks terrifc, I'm fa serious stoked for Dorff. One or two movies he's done have really showed me what he's all about when given the shot. Michelle Monaghan and Benicio del Toro also appear in the film as well. What?... Nice. A few thing in the script are, from Coppola, insipired by a few little things from her own life growing up as Francis Ford's daughter.

3 Reasons Why Tom Cruise Is Cooler Than You

He has a truly gorgeous daughter with clothes that cost more than a large down payment on your car. He's got a smokin' wife with newly added Broadway credits and lovely cozy life with the man of her dreams (3rd time's the charm?), And of course, a truly respectable career (thank God [not his] that's settled again). With Sunday night's Les Grossman dance off with J-Lo and her booty at the MTV Movie Awards/Twilight Fan Fest, it looks like Cruise it truly back in the saddle with his career hitting high notes again. Like it used to be all the time. He's back son! Respect his conglomerate. He's powerful, he might be the best paid actor around period. He's very, very good in front of the camera. Period. He can draw a huge numbers and then please the crowd on top of it. And then, just when you thought you knew him, he dawns a fat suit and balding wig, and throws you something fresh, and most importantly, funny.

As an actor myself, studying theater and film for years now in school, I have a most grand appreciation for this man. I have a respectable collection of his films, and have studied him intensely, watching the way he releases his lines, and holds himself with his characters. His film presence is important to me, as well as many others. The way his swag flows into the camera, and the strings he pulls for himself behind it, is a way of saying, "I'm raw, and this is why."

But wait! There's more!
