What is this and where did it come from? A lot of people are playing catch up right now because this wasn't exactly on the map. The directors, The Brothers Strause, Greg and Colin, are responsible for the mega-disaster flick, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. The good news it, these guys learned from their mistakes and got their act together.
All the while working on shit like this, for the special effects department: 300, X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and The Day After Tomorrow, for which Greg won a British Academy Award (BAFTA). They even worked on Avatar, if you've heard of that one.
But wait! There's more!
The brothers explained that the film was motivated by their inability to get any projects off the ground with studios, so they opted to do everything themselves in and around their Los Angeles apartment building, with their in-house visual effects company, Hydraulix, providing the FX. There was literally no outside studio involvement whatsoever. The Bros. also own their own cameras, production gear and special effects equipment, so they got to work without a studio suit peering over their damn shoulders the whole time, trying to stretch the scope to fit any audience for the biggest budget kick-back at the box office. So, not only did owning all their own stuff keep costs down, but they also shot most of the movie at the Marina del Rey apartment complex where one of them lives.
Talk about cost effective. This is the kinda stuff I'm gonna start doing, once I get my money together. It's really amazing what kinda of FX's you can pull out of a lap-top. Trust me, if you have any for me at all, lap-tops are powerful pieces of technology. You just need to be savy
enough to work an effects program to the max, like Adobe Premier or Final Cut Pro (Mac).
Anyway. Without further adieu...
Fuckin' sick right? RIght?! Eh?! Yes, I know this.
Mos def keeping oyu posted on this.
Munki out.
